Take a #Cre8time Picnic with #PolymerClay...
by Tracy Alden

Hello! Tracy here with another Amazing Casting Products inspiration post! With Summer now upon us (in my area 105º Fahrenheit and above) I have been looking to keep cool indoors with crafts. One of my favorite pastimes is to create miniatures. With the help of Amazing Mold Putty I was able to create the majority the miniatures you see in the above photo (see the penny on the bottom left for scale) out of polymer clay. Amazing Mold Putty can be an indispensable tool to create textures, details, shapes and elements in miniature. One quick and simple miniature project is to create plate molds!

To create the look of the miniature plates, I look to the bottoms of small bottles. The shape and indents were perfect to be molded to create a base mold for rustic plates.

I mixed up small batches of Amazing Mold Putty to be placed on a ceramic tile and the bottles carefully pushed into the putty to create the molds. I find pushing slightly up the sides of bottles with the yet uncured putty gives a little lip to the mold that will later help retain the polymer clay.

Once the molds were fully cured I placed pea size polymer clay medallions in each mold and pushed the bottles into the clay, and back into the molds, to fill each mold completely.

With the bottles removed, I used a small rounded stylus to push the clay to the edges and to lightly indent into the clay the circular pattern of wheel thrown ceramics. I then put the tile with molds and clay into a toaster oven, per manufacturer instructions, to cure. Once the clay was cooled, the plates popped easily out of the molds. I trimmed any uneven edges on the miniature plates with emery board.

The cutting boards, veggies and plates, made from polymer clay, were all created with the help of Amazing Mold Putty molds and texture plates. With just a little imagination any number of surfaces, textures and shapes can be molded to create a miniature world of your choosing!
